Once, I had free afternoon so I went to the American Museum of Natural History. That place has a lot of amazing artifacts. They got the Lucy bones, a giant meteor, and of course the 94 foot Blue Whale. They also have roving gangs of rabid children that are pretty certain the exhibits are for running around and not for the deep study at our strange and varied history on this planet ! (shakes elderly fist)
Like look at these masks! From all different places, different times. They all had the same idea. Let’s wear a crazy mask and do some big act outs! Pretend we’re Gods! Give the people a show! Somebody died! Quick, get the mask! We gotta fight somebody, well we’re gonna need our scariest masks…
Everything mask got so loaded because of the pandemic. I personally was and still am pro face mask because yeah, I do believe they protect me. Never got Covid. Or anything else! And every disease circulates here.
But I also like masks for the privacy they offer. I like to practice talking while I’m behind one. I go into my little world, nobody the wiser, thank you N95!
I hope to transition to a more ceremonial mask in the future. Just gotta wait and see if we ever stop being so gross and germy. Then I’m gonna strap on an angry monkey for my commute and then perhaps google eye with fangs for work. Nighttime is right for lightly mustached, gentle smile mask. And just all the while, I can work on my actual face under the mask and get it together.
Let the mask do all the heavy lifting of keeping your smile in place, your canines bared. Attract the right sorts, repel the rest.
Now what mask will I wear when I return to the AMNH and face off against those children…
